Andrew Chisholm Biathlon Season Recap
DYNAMIS Biathlete Finishes 2nd In the North American Cup and 2nd at North American Championships
on Apr 05, 2012
DYNAMIS athlete Andrew Chisholm finished his 2011 - 2012 biathlon season strong with his second place finish overall at the North American Championships, in Fort Kent, Maine for the Junior Men's division. Andrew also took second place overall in the Junior Men's North American Cup series. His second place finish was a total of points earned throughout these races. To cap everything off, Andrew had a great National Championships, taking a bronze medal in the 12.5k mass start and a 4th place finish in the 12.5k pursuit competition.
With a very successful season behind him, Andrew is now turning his sights to the future. Working very closely with his coach, Richard Boruta, he had this to say:
"I don’t expect to break onto the World Cup until after Sochi, (but) there is nothing stopping me from that happening by chance. We don’t know how my body will respond to this next training load; I wasn’t expecting me to make the leaps I did this year. Richard runs a tough, but extremely effective program. Everyone on the team made huge strides and great improvements throughout the year. I don't see the group's momentum slowing any time soon. My goals for the next season are to race at the U26 Biathlon Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria, and maybe qualify for my first IBU cup tour. Hopefully in 2014 I will qualify for the Canmore IBU cups, it’s a very special opportunity to be able to compete on the international stage in your own backyard. The 2014 Olympics still aren’t out of the question; they just aren’t an ideal goal for me at this point in time. "
With a target of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, Andrew will be training hard and taking metrics of his progress every step of the way. In this last 2011 - 2012 season, Andrew completed his biggest training year to date, with close to 700 hours done. Moving towards his goal of the Olympics will take years of preparation.
"It’s going to be quite the journey, but I look forward to having DYNAMIS with me each step of the way!" - Andrew Chisholm
